When you buy an espresso machine or a tamper, a tamping mat is usually not included. When I (Jasper) first got my machine, that meant tamping straight on my countertop.

The result? Unevenly tamped (sour) espresso, scratches on my work surface and coffee everywhere.

That had to change. So at Barista-Essentials, we started looking for a better solution. We came across plenty of tamping mats in the strangest shapes, often with dedicated slots for your tamper (as if you don’t already have enough barista tools).

So we decided to design a tamping mat that goes back to the basics: solid, non-slip and easy to clean.
