How does a coffee tamping station help you make better coffee?
It’s so irritating when you do your best to consistently pull a great espresso, yet you still find that every extraction is different.
When I started as a home barista, I (Hugo) had no idea that skewed tamping could be the cause.
If you put your portafilter on the countertop (or even on a tamping mat) for tamping, there’s nothing keeping it from moving around.
Tamping unevenly causes your water to flow through your puck at different speeds. This affects the balance of flavours you’re looking for in an espresso. This is where a tamping station comes in.
The design of our tamping station:
We don’t just sell any tamping station. This one is simple yet highly effective.
- Sturdy, made of folded steel
- Non-slip silicone mat underneath
- Compact size (15 x 11 x 6.7 cm)
- Removable mat for easy cleaning
- Space for your tamper on top of the tamping station
- Stylish The design is simple yet elegant
Check if your portafilter fits
Unfortunately, not all portafilters work equally well with this tamping station.
Do you use a Barista-Essentials portafilter or even a bottomless portafilter? Then you can use this tamping station regardless of the portafilter size.
If you use an original portafilter from De’Longhi or Sage, there is unfortunately not enough space to put the portafilter into the tamping station straight on.
However, you can then use the tamping station if you insert the portafilter sideways.
