Gingerbread latte: How to make it at home

Gingerbread latte: Zo maak je 'm zelf thuis

A gingerbread latte is a warm coffee drink with the comforting flavour of gingerbread.

Below, you’ll read how to easily make this holiday classic at home.

Gingerbread Latte Recipe

Making a gingerbread latte yourself is easier than you think. Besides your usual latte ingredients (espresso and milk), you only need some gingerbread spices and syrup.

What you need:

  • Double espresso (36–40 g)
  • Milk or a plant-based alternative
  • Gingerbread syrup
  • A bit of cinnamon or gingerbread spice
  • Latte cup (250 ml)

How to make a warming gingerbread latte:

Pour a splash of syrup (more syrup means sweeter) into your preheated cup.

Brew your espresso directly on top. This order is important, because it helps the syrup mix properly with the hot espresso.

Steam your milk as you normally would.

Right before pouring the milk and creating latte art, sprinkle a little cinnamon or gingerbread spice over your espresso.

Pour in the milk.

Done!

Variation: Gingerbread Espresso Tonic

Want to experiment with the classic flavours of a gingerbread latte? Try making an espresso tonic with it, a kind of alcohol-free coffee cocktail for the holidays!

You need:

  • Tonic
  • Double espresso (36 g)
  • Ice (the bigger the ice cubes, the better)
  • Gingerbread syrup
  • Slice of dried ginger (for garnish)

How to make a gingerbread espresso tonic:

Pour the syrup into the bottom of the glass and add your ice cubes.

Pour the tonic into a nice glass or cocktail glass until just below the rim.

Pull your espresso shot into a shot glass and gently pour it over the tonic. Be careful, it can foam.

Garnish with a slice of dried ginger.

Done!

The dried ginger on top gives you a burst of ginger aroma with every sip. It adds a whole new dimension to your drink, so don’t skip it!
