When I (Jasper) first started out as a home barista, every espresso tasted different. Sometimes just right, sometimes bitter — but usually a bit too sour.

The cause? A classic case of channeling, often the result of uneven tamping. When this happens, water takes the path of least resistance and your coffee puck extracts unevenly.

Partly my fault, but also thanks to the standard plastic DeLonghi Dedica tamper. A lightweight plastic tool no serious home barista really wants to work with.

A 51mm coffee tamper designed for home baristas

We designed this 51mm DeLonghi tamper ourselves, based on years of experience and extensive testing.

After trying countless barista tampers, we combined the best features into this Barista-Essentials tamper.

The right tamper for your machine

Using the correct tamper size is key to good espresso.

This 51mm tamper is a perfect fit for machines such as the DeLonghi Dedica, DeLonghi La Specialista, Icona Vintage, and Solis Grind & Infuse Compact.

For machines like the Sage Barista Express, Solis Grind & Infuse Pro, or Breville Barista Express, we also offer a 53.3mm tamper.

For Quick Mill and E61 machines, we recommend our 58mm or 58.5mm tampers. Especially with E61 machines, the 58.5mm version often fits the portafilter even better.
