Enjoy your cappuccino with the right cup

Your puck prep and latte art skills come together in a good cappuccino cup.

After all that effort, you want a cup that keeps your coffee warm and shows off your latte art.

Our cappuccino cups are handmade from porcelain. That makes them durable and excellent at holding heat from your espresso.

All versions are glazed on the inside, so they stay beautiful longer. The more vibrant colors (pink, green, or yellow) are also half-glazed on the outside.

What should you look for when buying cappuccino cups?

A real barista cappuccino cup has the following key features:

  1. Not too big. Some cappuccino mugs are oversized, holding up to 220 ml. That turns your cappuccino into a latte.
  2. Not too tall. Your cup should fit between your coffee scale and portafilter.
  3. Material. Not every material holds heat well. That’s why ceramic and stoneware are less ideal than glass or porcelain. Porcelain also warms up faster on top of your espresso machine.
  4. Easy to maintain. A cup that can handle frequent use and dishwasher cleaning is better than one that stains easily.

Material of the cappuccino cups

You can find cappuccino cups in all sorts of materials: stoneware, glass, plastic, stainless steel, ceramic, and porcelain.

Not all of them retain heat well or stay looking good. Stoneware and ceramic cool down faster than glass or porcelain.

We chose thin-walled porcelain for our barista cappuccino cups because it heats up quickly, keeps your coffee warm, and lasts a long time.

Design of the cappuccino cups

Our cappuccino cups are designed with home baristas in mind.

We gave them a rounded bottom so your espresso flows in smoothly and the crema stays intact. It also helps you pour steamed milk more evenly and mix it well with your espresso. Plus, this shape makes the cups stackable—even on top of your machine.

Another important feature: our cups have thinner walls than most others. That means they heat up faster and your milk doesn’t cool down too quickly. The result? A cappuccino that stays warm longer.

Why do you need special cups for cappuccino?

A good cappuccino is all about balance—espresso, milk, and foam. If the cup is too small or too large, that balance is lost. You might miss the espresso flavor or end up with something closer to a cortado.

So make sure your cappuccino is served in a cup that’s made for it.

Some coffee cups are also fine for cappuccinos, but make sure they hold 180–220 ml and are made of sturdy material.

Why choose Barista Essentials cups?

We designed our own cappuccino cups so you can enjoy every sip. During the design process, we focused on:

  1. Wall thickness. We chose thinner walls for better heat retention and a smooth drinking experience.
  2. Material. Porcelain is not only durable, it gets even nicer with use—like a good cotton shirt.
  3. Rounded bottom. This shape keeps your crema intact and makes latte art easier.
  4. Wide top (8 cm). Plenty of room to perfect your latte art creations.

Our cappuccino cups are handmade in Vietnam by a small-scale producer. After casting, they’re smoothed by hand and left to dry.

After they bake in the oven, they are glazed, and baked again at 1250°C for a durable finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

What else can you drink from these cappuccino cups?

They’re also great for flat whites, americanos, or a double espresso.

How do you keep your cappuccino from cooling down too fast?

The material matters—choose one that holds heat well.

Also, preheat your cup on top of your machine. That way your espresso doesn’t hit a cold surface and cool down right away.

How are porcelain cappuccino cups made?

Our porcelain cups are handmade in Vietnam. After casting, they’re smoothed with a wet sponge and fired. Then they’re glazed and fired again at 1250°C.

How big is a cappuccino cup?

Our cups are 6 cm tall and have a top diameter of 8 cm.

Why do your cups have no handles?

We think handleless cups are easier to clean—no stains between handle and cup. They also look sleeker on your machine and take up less space.

Are these cups good for latte art?

Absolutely! The wide opening gives you plenty of room to pour beautiful patterns with your milk frothing jug.

What’s the difference between cappuccino, latte, and espresso cups?

Looking for barista cups? Here’s how to choose the right size for your drink:

We offer three types:

Espresso cup: 60 ml for espresso or cortado. See all our espresso cups here.

Cappuccino cup: 180 ml for cappuccino, flat white, americano, or a double espresso.

Latte cup: 250 ml for lattes or a double cappuccino.

Are the cups dishwasher-safe?

Yes, the cappuccino cups are dishwasher-safe.

It’s best to load them just before running the dishwasher.

Also important: don’t soak the cups, especially in the first few months. That helps prevent stains from seeping into the porcelain.

The longer you use them, the smoother and more stain-resistant the raw porcelain exterior becomes.

How many ml does a cappuccino cup hold?

Most cappuccino cups hold between 180 ml and 220 ml. What’s right for you depends on your taste.

Ask yourself: Do you prefer a milder or a stronger cappuccino?

We chose 180 ml for our cups, so the espresso still shines through.

Prefer a milkier cappuccino? Check out our latte cups with 250 ml capacity.

Can I use the cappuccino cups in the microwave?

Yes, our porcelain cups are microwave-safe. Perfect if your espresso machine takes a while to heat up—just warm your cup in seconds.
