A solid foundation: Tamping Mat
When you buy an espresso machine, a tamping mat is usually not included. When I (Jasper) first got my Sage machine, that meant tamping directly on the countertop.
The result? Scratches on the countertop, coffee everywhere, and a portafilter that wouldn’t stay level while tamping.
When we started researching tamping mats, we found plenty with odd shapes and unnecessary extras, like dedicated slots for your tamper. But what we wanted was simply a good tamper mat.
So, we decided to develop one ourselves.
