The importance of a coffee distributor
You probably know it: you turn on your bean grinder and before you know it, there’s a mountain of coffee in your portafilter.
You can tamp this as straight as you like, but if you don’t divide it first, the coffee is a lot denser in the middle than at the edges.
This causes donut extraction (aka channelling), where the coffee at the edges is over-extracted faster than the coffee in the middle. That means: too much acidity, too much bitters.
This is where a coffee distribution tool like this can make all the difference.
An espresso distribution tool, developed for you
The coffee distributor you’re looking at is a great example of our constant product development process, as it´s been recently redesigned.
It’s now easier to adjust the depth of the distribution surfaces. For this, we used the helpful feedback from our customers and fellow home baristas.
Our distributor now has the following unique features:
- Stainless steel surfaces that last a lifetime
- Easily depth-adjustable by twisting the tool
- Minimalist design, functional and stylish
- In 2 colours black or silver
- In 4 sizes, always a fit for your machine
Coffee distributor vs WDT Tools
If you’re looking for a coffee distribution tool, you will definitely have also seen several WDT-tools, the small espresso distributor with the needles. These are also touted as distribution tools for espresso, and for good reason.
The main difference between a coffee distributor and a WDT tool is this: the coffee distributor prepares you for tamping by mainly levelling the top of the puck. The WDT tool also distributes the coffee at the bottom of your filter basket.
To distribute your espresso grounds perfectly, we recommend using both distribution tools.
Coffee distributors for Every Home Barista
Our coffee distributor fits most portafilters, it’s just a matter of picking the right size for you.
Pick from the following 4 sizes:
51mm: Delonghi Dedica, Solis Grind & Infuse compact
53.3mm: Sage Barista Express, Solis Grind & Infuse Pro, Breville Barista Express
58mm: Quick Mill
58.5mm: E61 machines, ECM, VBM (Vibiemme), Rocket, Rancilio, La Marzocco, Solis Triple Heat, Sage the Oracle, Breville Barista Max
Is your machine not listed here? Then take a look at our extensive size chart or measure the inside of your filter basket. The diameter in mm is the right size for your divider.
After dividing, it is important to tamp your coffee properly. Here, the right tools also make a difference. Check out our tampers or 2-in-1 tamper and coffee distributor here.
