Autumn recipe chai style latte

Autumn is here, which means only one thing: time for warming drinks! 🍂 As the leaves change color, there’s nothing better than cozying up with a chai latte. And why not make your chai syrup? The spicy blend of cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger is the perfect match with your favorite espresso!

The chai latte is a modern, Western twist on the traditional Indian masala chai, where spiced tea is mixed with steamed milk. But why go for homemade chai syrup when you can buy ready-made chai powder? It’s simple: it’s fresher, more flavorful, and you can customize it to your taste. Those powders are often too sweet, drowning out the flavor of your espresso. With your syrup, you control exactly what goes in—just pure ingredients and no weird additives. Plus, syrup blends perfectly with milk, without clumping. And the best part? You’re creating something unique, totally your own 👌✨

Chai syrup for the perfect autumn latte:

  1. The spice mix – Combine the following spices:
    • 2 tbsp cinnamon
    • 3/4 tbsp ginger powder
    • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
    • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
    • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
    • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
    • Optional: 2 black cardamom pods for a smoky touch
  2. The syrup – Time to simmer:
    • Combine 250 ml of water, 75 g granulated sugar, and 75 g brown sugar in a saucepan and heat over medium. Let it gently simmer until the sugar dissolves (about 3-5 minutes).
    • Then add the spice mix and 1 vanilla pod (or a few drops of vanilla extract).
    • Let it simmer for another 5-8 minutes over low heat so all the flavors can blend.
  3. Cool down – Remove from heat, let cool, and store in a bottle in the fridge. Your homemade chai syrup is now ready to give your latte that extra warm kick.

Variations & Tips:

Want something extra? Add a spoonful of pumpkin puree to your chai syrup for a Pumpkin Spiced Latte. 🎃 No time to make syrup? No problem, you can use store-bought chai syrup too. And no espresso? This latte is delicious even without it. But honestly, as espresso lovers, we think adding a shot makes it complete 😉
