Brewing espresso with a bottomless portafilter (or naked portafilter) is not only addictive to watch but also reveals a lot about your extraction! Issues like sour espresso, too long brew times, or an uneven tamp become immediately visible with a bottomless portafilter.
Using a bottomless portafilter requires some attention and practice. You might not achieve a perfect extraction right away since this portafilter does not protect against splashing as a closed portafilter with a double spout does. However, it provides you with enough information to improve your technique!
